Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our AI-powered hair transplant simulation service.
General Questions
What is HairSimulate?
HairSimulate is an AI-powered platform for hair and eyebrow transplant simulations plus an optional Community feed. For simulations, you upload a front-facing photo and our clinical-grade AI generates a realistic preview — including hairline design for scalp procedures and, in public beta, a mature 12-month eyebrow restoration preview. Verified members can also use Community to share progress photos, transplant stories, and simulations linked from their dashboard. The tool helps patients research options and helps clinics set expectations during consultations. HairSimulate is not a medical service and does not provide diagnoses or surgical guarantees.
Is HairSimulate free to use?
Yes, HairSimulate is free to try with no account required. Guest users can submit a photo and receive a simulation at 512px resolution with an on-screen watermark overlay after about a 60-second processing wait. To unlock instant high-definition results at 1024px with a trademark watermark embedded in the file, create a free account (1 credit) and verify your phone number for a +1 bonus (2 credits total) — no payment required. Credits never expire. Additional credits can be purchased if you need more simulations. There are no subscriptions or hidden fees.
Do I need to create an account?
No, you can use HairSimulate simulations as a guest without creating an account. Guest access includes about a 60-second wait, 512px resolution, and a stronger on-screen watermark overlay. Creating a free account takes about 60 seconds — email, password, and optional phone verification for 2 free HD credits total (1 at signup + 1 phone bonus), 1024px results with trademark watermark embedded in the file, faster processing, save/download, simulation history, and access to Community (posts, comments, likes, bookmarks, and follows). Community requires a logged-in account; guest users can browse public Community posts where enabled. Your account data is encrypted and you can request deletion at any time.
Is this a medical service?
No. HairSimulate is a visualization tool, not a medical service. Our AI-generated simulations are created for informational and planning purposes only and do not constitute medical advice, a clinical diagnosis, or a guarantee of surgical outcomes. Hair transplant surgery is a complex medical procedure, and individual results depend on many factors including donor hair density, scalp elasticity, the technique used (FUE or FUT), surgeon experience, and the patient's healing process. We strongly encourage every user to consult with a board-certified hair restoration surgeon — such as a member of the ABHRS (American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery) or ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) — before making any surgical decisions.
How It Works
How does the simulation process work?
The simulation process has four steps. First, you upload a clear, front-facing photo of yourself — the photo should show your current hairline and scalp clearly under good lighting. Second, our AI analyzes your facial geometry, skin tone, existing hair patterns, and scalp characteristics to build a model of your unique features. Third, you can optionally customize your desired hairline shape, density, and coverage area using our interactive design tools — or accept the AI's recommended configuration. Fourth, the system renders a high-fidelity before-and-after simulation, typically in under 60 seconds for verified members. The result shows your original photo alongside the simulated post-transplant outcome so you can compare directly.
What type of photo should I upload?
For the most accurate simulation, upload a clear, front-facing photo taken under natural or even indoor lighting. The photo should show your full face from the forehead to the chin, with your hairline and scalp clearly visible. Avoid photos with hats, headbands, sunglasses, or other objects that obscure the hairline or scalp. Photos taken in bright daylight or under consistent overhead lighting work best. Avoid heavy shadows, strong directional lighting from the side, or flash photography that washes out detail. Standard smartphone cameras produce more than sufficient quality — you do not need a professional camera. The photo should ideally be at least 800×800 pixels for optimal simulation fidelity.
How long does it take to generate a simulation?
For verified members — users who have created a free account and completed phone verification — simulations are generated in under 60 seconds. The exact time depends on current server load, but the average generation time is approximately 45–60 seconds from submission to result. Guest users experience a deliberate wait of about 60 seconds before receiving their simulation. This difference reflects the prioritization our system gives to verified accounts. If you find the wait time too long as a guest, signing up for a free account and verifying your phone number immediately unlocks the faster processing tier at no cost.
Can I customize the hairline design?
Yes. After uploading your photo and allowing the AI to complete its initial analysis, you are presented with an interactive design canvas. You can adjust the hairline position (how high or low on the forehead), the shape of the hairline (rounded, M-shape, straight), and the hair density (the number of grafts simulated per square centimeter). You can explore multiple configurations and generate a new simulation for each variant. This feature is particularly useful for patients who are deciding between a conservative restoration and a more aggressive coverage approach, or who want to see how different hairline shapes interact with their facial structure.
Pricing & Credits
How much does HairSimulate cost?
HairSimulate operates on a freemium model — the core simulation experience is free. Guest users can run simulations at no cost with no account required. Registered members receive 1 free credit at signup; phone-verified members receive one additional bonus credit (+1, for 2 total). Each credit corresponds to one HD simulation at 1024px resolution with trademark watermark embedded in the file. Additional credits can be purchased if needed. There are no monthly subscriptions, no setup fees, and no recurring charges unless you choose to buy additional credits. Free credits do not expire.
What's the difference between guest and verified member results?
Guest mode lets anyone try HairSimulate without an account: you get a 512px resolution simulation with an on-screen watermark overlay after about a 60-second processing wait, and you cannot save or download the result. Verified member mode is available after creating a free account and completing phone verification. Verified members receive 1024px HD simulations (four times the pixel count of guest results), significantly faster processing, a trademark watermark embedded in the image file (not watermark-free), the ability to save simulations to their account, full simulation history access, and the ability to download results. Phone verification takes under 2 minutes and is completely free.
How do I get free credits?
You receive 1 free credit when you create a HairSimulate account. Verify your phone number through our SMS flow to receive +1 bonus credit (2 total). The verification step takes less than 2 minutes and requires no payment. Each credit can be used for one HD simulation at 1024px resolution with trademark watermark embedded in the file. Credits never expire. If you delete a simulation that is still pending or processing, the credit may be refunded per product rules. Additional credits can be purchased from your account dashboard.
Do all results have watermarks?
Yes. Guest simulations use an on-screen watermark overlay with copy/download protection at 512px. Logged-in and phone-verified HD results (1024px) include a trademark watermark embedded in the image file — HD is not watermark-free. The mark is scaled to the image and does not obscure the hairline. Community uploads are separate: every community photo includes a hairsimulate.com text watermark burned into the bottom-right corner.
Do credits expire?
No, credits never expire. Once credits are added to your HairSimulate account — whether through the free signup and phone-verification grants (2 total) or through an additional credit purchase — they remain available indefinitely. There is no time pressure to use them. This means you can create an account, claim your free credits, and use them months or years later when you are ready to explore hair restoration options. Your account and credits remain active as long as your account is open.
Results & Accuracy
How accurate are the simulations?
HairSimulate's AI model is trained on a large dataset of real hair transplant before-and-after photographs and uses advanced computer vision to generate realistic visualizations. The model accounts for your facial geometry, skin tone, existing hair characteristics, and the requested hairline configuration to produce a result that reflects plausible post-surgical outcomes. That said, simulations are visualizations — not clinical predictions. Actual surgical outcomes are influenced by many variables that an AI cannot evaluate from a photo alone, including donor hair supply, hair texture and curl pattern, graft survival rate, surgeon technique, and individual healing. Think of the simulation as a well-informed estimate that helps you visualize a likely range of outcomes, not a guaranteed result.
Can I download my results?
Yes, verified members can download their simulation results. After your HD simulation is generated, a download button appears on the result page. The downloaded image is at 1024px resolution and includes the trademark watermark embedded in the file. You can download each simulation as many times as needed — downloads do not consume additional credits. Downloaded simulations are useful for comparing options across multiple sessions, sharing with a hair restoration surgeon during a consultation, or showing to friends and family. Guest users can view their result on-screen but cannot save or download it — creating a free verified account unlocks download access.
Can I share my simulation results?
Yes. Verified members can download 1024px HD simulations (trademark watermark embedded in the file) and share them with a surgeon, friends, or family. You can also publish to HairSimulate Community — optional posts with up to six photos (each with a hairsimulate.com watermark), procedure tags, and simulations linked from your dashboard. Each post uses a visibility setting you choose: public (anyone, including logged-out visitors), community-only (logged-in members), or anonymous to other users (HairSimulate still associates the post with your account for safety and moderation). Community is supportive, not medical advice; do not post information you are not comfortable sharing. Guest simulations are view-only and cannot be downloaded or posted to Community.
Will my actual hair transplant look exactly like the simulation?
No simulation can guarantee an exact surgical outcome, and HairSimulate is transparent about this. Your actual hair transplant result depends on many factors: the number of viable grafts in your donor area, your hair's natural curl and texture, graft survival during extraction and implantation, how your scalp heals, and your surgeon's technique and artistry. The simulation is designed to give you a realistic and honest preview of a plausible outcome — not an idealized version. We train our models on real transplant results, not retouched photos, specifically to avoid setting unrealistic expectations. Always discuss your expectations directly with your surgeon, who can assess your specific scalp and donor characteristics in person.
Privacy & Security
Is my photo data secure?
Yes. HairSimulate takes photo security seriously because we understand that uploading a personal facial photo requires significant trust. All photos are encrypted during transmission using TLS and encrypted at rest in our storage systems. We apply industry-standard access controls so that only the systems directly involved in generating your simulation can access your photo. We do not use your photos for facial recognition, identity verification, or any purpose other than generating your simulation. You can read the full details of how we handle your data in our Privacy Policy, and you can request deletion of your photos and account data at any time.
What happens to my photos?
Simulation photos are used to generate your hair or eyebrow preview and are stored securely for your account. If you use Community, photos and text you choose to publish are stored and shown according to the visibility you select (public, community-only, or anonymous to other users). We do not sell your personal data. With separate explicit consent, anonymized simulation outputs may be used to improve AI accuracy — never required to use the service. You can delete Community posts from the app and request account or data deletion at info@hairsimulate.com (typically within 30 days). See our Privacy Policy for retention of backups, moderation, and legal records.
Can I delete my account and data?
Yes. You have the right to delete your HairSimulate account and all associated data at any time. To request deletion, contact us at info@hairsimulate.com with the subject line 'Account Deletion Request.' We will delete your account, uploaded photos, simulation history, and personal information within 30 days of your request. In limited cases, we may be required to retain certain records (such as transaction records) for a legally mandated period, but these are kept separately from your profile data and are not used for any other purpose. Deleting your account permanently removes all credits — unused credits are not refundable.
Do you sell my personal information?
No. HairSimulate does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information — including your name, email address, phone number, photos, or simulation data — to any third party. Your data is used exclusively to operate the HairSimulate service: processing your simulation, managing your account, sending account-related communications (such as verification codes), and improving our AI models (only with your explicit consent and only using anonymized data). We may share minimal data with infrastructure providers (such as cloud storage and email delivery services) strictly for the purpose of operating the service. These providers are contractually prohibited from using your data for any other purpose. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Community
What is HairSimulate Community?
Community is an optional social feed inside the HairSimulate app for people on a hair or eyebrow restoration journey. You can publish posts with up to six photos, a text story, procedure tags (for example procedure type or months post-op), and simulations linked from your own dashboard. Other members can like posts, leave threaded comments, bookmark posts, and follow users. There are no downvotes — the tone is meant to stay supportive in a sensitive medical context. Community does not replace professional medical advice.
Who can see my Community posts?
You choose a visibility setting for each post before publishing. Public posts can be viewed by anyone, including people who are not logged in, and may be indexed or shared outside HairSimulate. Community-only posts are visible to logged-in HairSimulate users. Anonymous posts hide your name and profile from other users, but HairSimulate still stores the account link for ownership, deletion, safety, moderation, and legal compliance — anonymous does not mean invisible to us. Logged-out visitors only see public posts in the feed.
Can I link my simulations to a Community post?
Yes, when you are logged in you can attach simulations you own from your HairSimulate dashboard to a Community post. Only simulations tied to your account can be linked; this helps prevent others from misrepresenting your results. Linked simulations appear alongside your photos and story so viewers can see the same preview you used in consultation or research.
Can I edit or delete Community content?
You can delete your own posts and comments from the app. Posts cannot be edited after publishing in the current version — this reduces bait-and-switch on popular posts. Deleting a post removes it from normal display; limited backups, logs, or moderation records may be kept for a reasonable period as described in our Privacy Policy. If you delete your account, we process removal of identifiable Community content as part of account deletion (contact info@hairsimulate.com if you need help).
How does reporting and moderation work?
If you see content that violates our rules — harassment, spam, impersonation, explicit material, or misleading medical claims — use the report option in the app. Our team may review reports and remove or restrict posts or accounts. Do not use Community to guarantee surgical outcomes, share another person's private medical information without consent, or promote unrelated advertising. For urgent safety issues, email info@hairsimulate.com.
Do Community photos have a watermark?
Yes. Every image you upload to Community is processed with a hairsimulate.com text watermark in the bottom-right corner. This is separate from the trademark watermark on HD simulation files. Do not upload images you are not comfortable sharing with that mark visible.
Eyebrow simulation (beta)
What is the eyebrow transplant simulation beta?
The eyebrow beta lets you upload one clear front-facing photo and preview a mature 12-month eyebrow transplant result — a single visualization, not a week-by-week recovery timeline. You can adjust brow character, donor thickness, band height, and related options before generating. The feature is in public beta, so quality and availability may change as we refine the model. Start a simulation in the app and select eyebrow mode, or use any “Try eyebrow beta” link on this site.
Is eyebrow simulation medical advice or a surgical guarantee?
No. Eyebrow simulations are AI-generated images for illustration and planning only. They are not medical advice, a clinical diagnosis, or a promise of how your procedure will look. Real outcomes depend on your anatomy, donor hair, scarring, healing, and your specialist’s technique. HairSimulate does not perform surgery and does not replace an in-person consultation. Always speak with a qualified physician before any eyebrow or hair restoration procedure.
Technical Support
What browsers are supported?
HairSimulate works on all modern web browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and Microsoft Edge. We recommend using the latest version of your browser for the best experience and to ensure you have access to all features. The application is built as a web-based tool, so no software installation or app download is required — you access it entirely through your browser. If you experience any issues with a specific browser version, try updating to the latest release or switching to Chrome or Safari, which we test most extensively. The app also works on mobile browsers including Safari for iOS and Chrome for Android.
Can I use HairSimulate on mobile?
Yes. HairSimulate is fully responsive and designed to work on smartphones and tablets as well as desktop computers. You can upload photos directly from your phone's camera roll or take a photo in real time using your device's camera. The simulation interface, customization tools, and result view are all optimized for touch screens. Many users find it convenient to use HairSimulate on mobile because it makes uploading a selfie quick and straightforward. If you experience slow performance on mobile, connecting to a Wi-Fi network and closing background apps can help, since simulation processing involves uploading and receiving relatively large image files.
What image formats are supported?
Hair and eyebrow simulations accept JPG (JPEG) and PNG uploads. Community post images also support WebP within the product upload limits. For best simulation quality, use a clear front-facing photo of at least 800×800 pixels. Avoid heavy compression or screenshots. iPhone HEIC photos can be converted via Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible or a converter before upload.
I'm experiencing technical issues. How can I get help?
If you encounter a technical issue with HairSimulate — such as a failed upload, a simulation that does not complete, or a problem accessing your account — please contact us at info@hairsimulate.com. Include a brief description of the issue, the browser and device you are using, and any error messages you see. We aim to respond to all technical support inquiries within 24–48 hours on business days. For urgent issues, including billing problems, account lockouts, or data deletion requests, note these details clearly in your subject line and we will prioritize your inquiry.
